Traps and Cordage.  We’ll be making several primitive traps which will be vital to acquiring food in a survival scenario.    We’ll also be learning the essential skill of wrapping cordage from plant fibers.

This class will take place outside, so dress appropriately for the weather.  You’ll also need a knife for some light carving of trap pieces.  The knife work will be very light so any sharp blade will do.

Imagine that you’re sitting in the woods one day, taking in all the beauty around you.  The birds are singing joyfully, squirrels are chasing each other excitedly from tree to tree.  The sun is shining brightly down through the canopy and a gentle breeze is quietly rustling the plants and trees.  You close your eyes to tune into yourself and notice something different.   Your eyes are closed, but you can still see everything.

The awareness exercises in this class will help strengthen your inner vision and awareness, with practice they’ll reach levels you probably shouldn’t believe without experiencing yourself.  These skills are applicable not only in wild places but also in your daily life.  They’ll increase your awareness of beauty, help you stay grounded, strengthen and sharpen your perception of intuition, keep you safe from harm and even help your body and mind operate more efficiently.  In a survival scenario, they’ll help you thrive and find guidance in times of need.

If any of this resonates with you, this is a class you don’t want to miss.

In this class we’ll cover the basics of wilderness survival to help you be able to survive anywhere on the continent.   The focus will be on primitive skills, but we’ll cover several skills involving modern equipment.

  • Shelter building
  • Making fire with a bow-drill which you will make in class
  • Finding, transporting, purifying water
  • Finding, cooking, preserving food.  This includes basic hunting and trapping skills

In addition to this we’ll do several exercises to help expand your awareness to levels you never knew existed.

You will need a knife for carving wood.  I suggest a 3-6″ full tang, high carbon steel fixed blade with a Scandi or Flat grind.   I recommend the Mora Companion HD as a great first knife.  I will have a small number of these for sale at the class for $25.  Please contact me ahead of time at mnnatureschool@gmail.com to check knife availability.
